"A child is a child in any country whatever the politics…there is no complicated diplomacy when a child is starving. It's simple. And we better do something about it for our sakes too. That is if we want to continue to call ourselves human."
~ a recipient of school feeding during World War 2 and later a UNICEF ambassador, Audrey Hepburn.
Our world produces more than enough food to feed everyone.
Yet almost 800 million people in the world do not have enough to lead a healthy active life.
That's about one in nine people on earth.
In our world of plenty 25,000 children die every day of hunger or diseases resulting from hunger.
Through school feeding we can change our world.
School feeding carries many benefits- education, nutrition and health, gender equality, food security, poverty alleviation- in one single meal.
The world would be changed if every hungry child in it were to receive a meal at school. It would mean that girls from the poorest homes would be sent to school for a hot meal and would incidentally receive an education. Educating girls means that you educate the next generation. It's hard to avoid the sheer justice implicit in wanting to feed every hungry child in the world.
Can you imagine the impact?
