Yume Cafe and Seibo : Connecting Students’ Dreams with a Cup from Malawi
Date:2025.11.07

In October 2025, Seibo Japan collaborated with students from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Department of Contemporary Business at International Pacific University (IPU) through the Dream Café Project, by introducing Malawian tea to their café concept.

The Dream Café is designed around the theme “Flavors and spaces that blend local ingredients with a global perspective.” It is a student-run café that celebrates both the charm of the local community and the richness of global connections. This time, by featuring tea from Malawi, students had the opportunity to experience and explore what it truly means to have a “global perspective.”

A Café Where Students Dream and Create
The Dream Café began in the spring semester of 2023 as part of the course “Project Zero” in the Department of Contemporary Business. It is a fully student-led initiative where students take on every aspect of management and operations—including planning, menu development, accounting, and public relations.

Using locally sourced ingredients from Okayama, pesticide-free, organically grown coffee beans, and even cascara (the dried coffee cherry skin that would otherwise be discarded), the students developed a creative and sustainable menu.

During the Open Campus on July 21, 2025, the café opened its doors to visitors, offering carefully selected coffee, sweets, and light meals—each reflecting the students’ passion, creativity, and commitment to sustainability.

Sharing a Cup of Malawi with Seibo Japan
For the October 2025 edition of Dream Café, Seibo Japan partnered with the student team to provide Malawian tea as part of their global menu.
This tea is lovingly grown by smallholder farmers in Malawi, supported by Seibo’s ongoing initiatives. The proceeds from the tea contribute directly to school meal programs for children in Malawi.

Through this collaboration, the students experienced firsthand how a single cup can connect people across continents—a drink that nourishes both body and hope. The Dream Café became a space where local warmth and international solidarity naturally blended together.

A Learning Space for the Future
The Dream Café is more than a café—it is a place where students can share their dreams and engage in hands-on learning about management, community partnership, and the SDGs.
For Seibo Japan, it was a meaningful opportunity to deliver a “fair and heartwarming cup” together with the younger generation.

Moving forward, Seibo will continue to expand these educational collaborations that unite learning and social contribution, connecting the warm hearts of Japan and Malawi through every cup shared.
