Nursery Intro Series- Sulema-10
Date:2015.12.09

School feeding Start Date: 11th February 2016
Sulema Nursery, Zambia Chilomoni
25 children were present on this visit, ranging in age from 10 months to 5 years old. The male to female ratio was 12: 13.
Our partner nurseries are mostly led by female teachers, but at Sulema there is one male and one female called Esnarth. Both are hugely enthusiastic and particularly motivating.
Esnarth is on the allocation committee (allocating free childcare places for the most needy in Seibo Japan’s partner children’s centre) and is able to engage with the most vulnerable children around Chilomoni.
She invites community children -those orphaned or whose parents are simply unable to afford nursery fees – to join Sulema, waiving the fees- so in other words- free childcare for the most needy.
Fees are 3500 for babies and 3000 kwacha for 2 – 5 year olds.
The children bring their own snacks if they can.
There is water available on site at Sulema. A room to use for storage is available and preparation can occur outside.
The building is a basic square building, with a door and barred windows. Resources are limited but there is good space to shelve/ store along the walls. There is nice, wide front area to play outside, plus shade on the stoop.
Sulema runs Monday to Thursday 7am-3/4pm. On Friday the children tend to finish at 12pm, or thereafter depending on parents availability.

This nursery is a wonderful example of the wonderful humanity behind childcare in Malawi. Help us support people like Esnarth by providing her
children with school feeding.
