On September 13, Seibo participated in the school festival at St. Capitanio Girls’ High School, presenting student learning outcomes and selling coffee and tea to support school meal programs in Malawi. Leading up to the festival, students completed a nine-session educational program, engaging in continuous learning and meaningful exchanges alongside Seibo staff and local university student volunteers.
At the sales booth, they also collaborated with students from Hikari-ga-oka Girls’ High School, another school in Aichi Prefecture. Together, they successfully raised enough funds to provide approximately 9,800 school meals! It was a truly remarkable learning achievement.
Below is a message shared by one of the participating student staff members:
“What left the deepest impression on me during the event was seeing customers who had finished their coffee turn to the students and say, ‘That was delicious, keep up the great work!’ Hearing those words instantly brightened the students’ faces, making them truly feel that their efforts were reaching others. The experience of bringing joy to someone through their own actions holds profound meaning for them.
We hope to build on this experience rather than letting it end with simply selling coffee. For example, by learning how the coffee is produced and whose hands it passes through before reaching us, a simple, everyday cup of coffee can become a gateway to reflecting on the people and social challenges in far-off Malawi.
Through this project, students gained hands-on experience interacting with people and taking action for a cause, closely connecting with St. Capitanio Girls’ High School’s core values of ‘Pure Heart, Responsibility, and Service’ and its commitment to experiential learning. We aim to continue nurturing the curiosity and passion born from such experiences, while constantly valuing opportunities that empower students to create and drive their own initiatives.”
