Seibo School Exchange Event in Kansai 2026
Date:2026.08.22

On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, NPO Seibo held its 10th Anniversary Event, “Connecting the International Community Through Malawi and Students,” at Osaka Kokusai Junior and Senior High School to celebrate a decade of operations. Students, teachers from partner schools, and representatives from partner organizations across the Kansai region gathered for an inspiring, high-energy day.

1. From One-Way Donations to “Education × Business”
NPO Seibo provides school meals to children in Malawi, Africa. Within the organization, the “Seibo Kansai Team” is a student-led division established through the active involvement of staff during the Osaka Expo. Formed independently by university students who lead high school members, the team promotes an innovative support model that moves beyond traditional “one-way donations.” Instead, it integrates Japanese school education (inquiry-based learning) with sustainable business activities.

In the Kansai region, this circular support model is built on three main pillars:

Lecturer Fees (Educational Services):
A sustainable educational business model providing high-quality inquiry-based learning programs and workshops to schools for a fee.

Product Sales (Micro Projects):
A business program where students take the lead in selling fair-trade Malawian coffee and other products, gaining hands-on experience in generating revenue while making a social contribution.

Donations & Collaboration:
A stable support base established through partnerships with Catholic schools and international school networks.

FY2025 Results: Generated 82,000 School Meals!

Through this model, total contributions from the Kansai region reached 1,228,152 yen in FY2025, providing 82,000 school meals to children in Malawi.

Examples of Active Partner Schools
Hibarigaoka Gakuen Junior and Senior High School: Student-led coffee sales (product profits) accounted for over 80% of their total contribution, driven by strong student engagement. As part of their curriculum, students operated a mock company—appointing a CEO, establishing a corporate philosophy, developing marketing strategies, and handling communication with business partners, including Seibo.

Osaka Kokusai Junior and Senior High SchoolStudents engaged in highly impactful activities, including social media promotion leading up to their school festival, managing a large student team, and calculating the exact cost of school meal support for Malawian nurseries to set clear fundraising targets.

Marist Brothers International SchoolAs part of their Service Learning curriculum, many students contribute to Malawi support efforts through coffee sales and awareness raising via poster sessions.

Kobe City Gakuentoshi High School:
Addressing the local issue of abandoned bamboo forests, students organized workshops where participants crafted bamboo puzzles of Malawi’s national coat of arms. Alongside these workshops, they actively sold Malawian coffee.

Veritas Josei Gakuen High SchoolSeibo Kansai staff members actively participate in weekly classes to raise awareness of Malawian social issues and support sales at the school festival. Unique initiatives include branding coffee with custom student-designed labels and engaging the alumni association.

2. August 12th: 10th Anniversary Event

The 10th Anniversary Event served as a milestone to showcase these achievements in Kansai and connect them to the next generation. The event featured four main programs:

① Opening & Field Report from Malawi
Following the opening, Seibo staff shared updates and achievements regarding school meal support in Malawi. It was a meaningful time for participants to see firsthand how their efforts directly bring smiles to children’s faces.

② Student Presentations

Students from partner schools took the stage to share reports on their inquiry-based learning initiatives and local coffee sales. Hearing students talk about identifying social issues and taking direct action (sales and support) highlighted their immense passion and personal growth.

③ Networking Session
The library of Osaka Kokusai Junior and Senior High School was opened for a networking session. Over warm Malawian coffee and snacks provided by Seibo, participants enjoyed inspiring conversations that crossed school and grade boundaries.

④ School Booths & Poster Sessions
Student teams set up creative booths in the school cafeteria. Through activity posters and interactive workshops, participants inspired one another, fostering a dynamic and collaborative network.

3. The Future Seibo Strives to Create
Marking 10 years since its founding, Seibo is moving into its next chapter: fostering young leaders as “Junior Ambassadors.” Our goal extends beyond simply delivering financial aid. We aim to empower young people to take ownership of global issues in Malawi, actively leading actions and spreading awareness within their schools, communities, and society. The educational environment itself becomes the frontline of real-world impact.
