Paradeiro in Shiga with Japanese Kids
Date:2026.05.26

Under the theme of “Labels Connecting Japan to Malawi,” each participant came up with their own creative designs during the workshop. By moving beyond just listening to a lecture and actually shaping ideas with their own hands, we believe it provided a wonderful opportunity for them to feel closer to Malawi, a country far away from Japan.
It was highly memorable to see how the participants naturally developed an interest in Malawi through the label-making process. Regardless of age, everyone enjoyed the process of “learning” while exchanging ideas in a friendly, harmonious atmosphere.

We also learned that this children’s cafeteria serves as a vital place for many children who face challenges attending school regularly. However, once the label-making began, they all focused deeply on their work, drawing pictures with free flowing ideas and expressing themselves in their own unique ways. It truly felt like a special time where each child’s individuality naturally shone through.

Furthermore, the labels created by the children were actually used for the coffee sold at “BKC Welcome Day!” at Ritsumeikan University’s Biwako-Kusatsu Campus (BKC). Seeing their own artwork transform into real products and reach many people must have been a profoundly valuable experience for the participating children. This initiative connected local community activities to the university and wider society, creating a new touchpoint that bridges Japan and Malawi.

At Seibo, we believe it is important not only to deliver aid but also to foster activities that connect local communities in Japan with Malawi. This initiative at “Paradeiro” provided a meaningful time for everyone to experience the “joy of creation” and a “chance to connect with the world.” We look forward to continuing to expand the circle connecting Japan and Malawi through collaboration with children’s cafeterias and local organizations.
