Learning Presentation for Social Business with Seibo
Date:2025.09.09

On August 28, 2025, NPO Seibo hosted a presentation workshop for those interested in social business.
It was a great opportunity to learn presentation skills from Seibo Japan’s representative, Makoto, who also has experience speaking at TED Talks.

Workshop Overview
Alice, an intern from London currently working in Tokyo and Osaka, shared practical tips and techniques for creating effective presentation materials.
Our representative, Yamada, highlighted the importance of “engaging the audience with your attitude” and “leaving them with something to think about at the end.”
The workshop became an opportunity to show the value of conveying messages from diverse perspectives, especially with participants from different nationalities.
Hearing the opinions of an intern from the UK—a leading country in charity—was also a valuable experience.

Through this session, students learned that presentations are not merely about memorization or technical skills, but about moving people with your own voice and story.

Learning Flow with TED
As future advice, the workshop introduced a step-by-step method using TED Talks:

Listening
Take notes on keywords while listening to a TED speech and grasp the main points.

Writing
Summarize what you understood in your own words.
Even just listing the keywords is fine, as long as it helps you recall the episodes you heard.

Speaking
Deliver a one-minute speech based on your notes.
Try to reconstruct the presentation you listened to, and if possible, add your own opinion for about 20 seconds at the end.

Reading
Read the script when necessary to deepen your understanding.
After adding your own opinion in Step 3, reflect again: Was your opinion valid? How could you expand it further?
Think about how you would build your own presentation using what you heard as a foundation.

By cycling through listening, reading, writing, and speaking, students were encouraged to strengthen not only their English ability but also their overall communication skills.
We also emphasized the importance of both modeling good presentations and adding your own perspective, which leads to a balance between form and content.

The Importance of Storytelling
In addition to logical structure, we stressed the significance of a strong background story in a presentation’s introduction.
For this, we referred to the actual presentations given by Seibo’s representative.
