Hyuga Gakuin Coffee Sale (Dec 2021)
Date:2021.12.24

Once again the students of Hyuga Gakuin High School in Miyazaki Prefecture held a Malawi Coffee event, as part of their initiative to raise awareness of FairTrade. The event, which raised vital funding for school meals in Malawi, was held on the 22nd of December. Many of those involved in the event were new members, and for many this was their first occasion to learn about Malawi. Their efforts in December raised approximately 13,500 school meals. From all of us at Seibo, in Japan & Malawi, and on behalf of the children of Malawi we say thank you!

The Hyuga Gakuin High School, as highlighted in this previous article, are part of a wider group of Salesian schools committed to engaging with social issues. In 2021 the school also held an online event with our team in Malawi, giving high school students in Japan an opportunity to learn about school feeding in Malawi from the people directly involved.

In Japan in 2022 we at Seibo intend to further build a network of partner high schools to share our message of charity, but also to invite high school students to assist Malawi and make a positive change in our world. To read more about the amazing efforts of the students at Hyuga Gakuin click here to read an article on their official website (in Japanese). If you, or your school in Japan or elsewhere in the world, are interested in helping Seibo provide school meals in Malawi, reach out to us here!

Let’s make the world a better place- together!
