Learning and Sharing with YMCA
Date:2020.02.05

YMCA ACT offers many english training programs for students, but not just in class, they also offers many interesting programs such as the international exchange program. Last December 28th, 2019, Seibo Warrior, Makoto San along with one very special junior high school student visited YMCA’s facility, in Kanagawa. The place is known as “Global Eco Village”. We shared about our role as a company in giving back to society.

During our time there, we also talked about social contribution to society and how it can be done though social enterprise. For example we introduced the company Cycle of Good, a social enterprise that creates products from recycled materials. Coincidentally, Makoto San was using a wallet from Cycle of Good that was made out of recycled bike tire. The students seems to be very interested.

Moreover, we also introduced about sustainable cultivation method of locally grown coffee. By using intercropping method, the land can be used more efficiently and in a longer term. This method is mostly used by local farmers in Malawi. In addition, the coffee is also provided by a local “premium system”, this can help strengthen local economy through agricultural growth, where some of the profits are also used to give back to local kindergartens and nursery schools. Last but not least, we introduced our own coffee initiatives “Warm Hearts Coffee Club” that provides Malawian coffee subscription program in Japan.

Aside from doing lecture, we also do many other fun things such as quizzes, coffee tasting, and discussion. Sharing in events such as this is one of our passions. We believe it is important for us to also invest in children’s future and let them know the importance of giving back culture. We would like say thank you to YMCA for giving us this opportunity to share. Click here to know more about YMCA and their programs.
