Tokyo After-School Feeding Report: Mar 2021
Date:2021.03.29

Since May 2019 Seibo Japan have been actively supporting after-school meals for Tokyo-based children in need of assistance at Happy House. This regular meal has been disrupted recently but with the lifting of Tokyo’s State of Emergency it is our hope that Happy House can soon return to normal.

Tokyo Today
On the 21st of March 2021 the government imposed State of Emergency for Tokyo was lifted. Unlike this time last year many children are not back attending school. However there are instances where children cannot attend school such as when a virus case is discovered on campus or if the student has been in contact with someone likewise infected. In these cases the children must isolate in their homes. In addition extra-curricular activities & events that would normally take place throughout the school year are no longer.

The Children
The children who previously attended Happy House have also returned to school where they receive a school meal for lunch. With the support of Seibo’s donors we can happily report that most of children that attended Happy House are managing to eat 3 meals daily.

Home Delivered Food
On a monthly basis volunteers from Vides Japan who run & operate Happy House procure and distribute food packs to each participating family. The packs include rice, vegetables, meat along with some frozen food items and some sweet snacks for the children.

What Next?
With the lifting of the State of Emergency the plan is to slowly resume the after-school feeding activities at Happy House. With new rules relating to time spent in the House, disinfecting and distance-keeping we hope to provide an occasion once more for a shared meal and company. As March is the month of school graduation in Japan we also expect 3 of the students attending Happy House to move on to the next stage of their lives- and are planning a graduation style event.
Thanks once more to Seibo’s donors for making this possible!
