Seibo Maria, an activity partner of the NPO Seibo, has launched a new tree-planting initiative at primary schools in Mzimba District, northern Malawi.
This initiative is implemented in conjunction with the school feeding programme run by the organisation and aims to replace trees that are cut down for firewood used in cooking porridge, thereby promoting environmental sustainability.
To mark the launch of the initiative, a tree-planting event was held at Kazengo Primary School in Mzimba District.
Speaking at the event, Victor Mthulo, Programmes Manager of Seibo Maria, stated:
“In addition to providing warm meals to children, protecting the environment that supports this food is also an important part of our mission. Tree planting in schools is an effort to nurture the future together with the local community.”
As part of this initiative, Seibo Maria donated 200 tree seedlings to Kazengo Primary School.
The school’s headteacher, Fiskani Luhanga, expressed his appreciation, saying:
“These seedlings are valuable resources for future generations. As a school, we will take full responsibility for growing and protecting them.”
Through integrated efforts in food support, education, and environmental conservation, NPO Seibo will continue to work toward building a sustainable future for children and local communities in Malawi.
