Under the theme of “Co-Developing an On-Demand Course for Social Outreach Using Moodle,” Seibo Japan will collaborate with a professor from Saga University to introduce its online social business learning platform.
The presentation will take place at a conference held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 9:30 a.m., which focuses on the use of Moodle, an online learning platform, within the education sector.
This presentation introduces a practical case study in which Seibo Japan, a Japan-based NPO that engages students in school meal support for Malawi, sustainability education, and social business practices, collaborated with a team of Moodle researchers to co-design and develop an on-demand Moodle course.
Seibo Japan conducts awareness-raising and fundraising activities across Japan to support education and school meal programs in Malawi. However, the lack of structured, on-demand learning materials has limited the expansion of its outreach efforts. In addition, this gap has made it difficult to provide stable educational content and to systematize training for staff and stakeholders.
In this project, Moodle researchers, university practitioners, Seibo’s student staff and employees, and international student interns from overseas universities formed a collaborative team to jointly develop a Moodle-based course. The course enables learners to progressively study the significance of Seibo’s school meal programs, the value of NPO activities and collaboration with students, as well as business case studies related to poverty and social challenges.
The presentation will report in detail on the instructional approach to creating interactive video content that enables two-way engagement, the rationale behind Moodle feature selection, the process of intern development, and the organizational growth of NPO staff. Lessons learned during the development process and future directions will also be shared.
This session serves as a practical case study demonstrating how Moodle can be applied not only within universities and educational institutions, but also in NPO settings and real-world social problem–solving contexts. It offers valuable insights for those interested in the intersection of educational technology and social impact.
