In this article, we would like to share the specific impact we are creating alongside our 7 local staff members in Malawi. We will explore this by comparing our efforts with other school feeding organizations, looking at the overall state of school meal support across Malawi, and touching upon the government’s future goals.
If you are interested in our work and would like to get more involved, we would be deeply grateful for your support through membership registration or donations here.
The Big Picture of School Feeding Support in Malawi

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has published the “WFP Malawi School Feeding & Inequality Dashboard,” which visualizes school meal coverage and regional gaps across the country.

In response, Seibo has also released our latest update: the “Seibo School Feeding Area Map (2026 Edition).”
By cross-referencing WFP’s broad macro-data with our own localized data, it has become clearer than ever before how much area Seibo covers nationwide, and exactly where the most critical, unaddressed regional gaps still remain.

The “Gaps” in Government Statistics and Hidden Regional Inequities

Although the Malawian government has prioritized the expansion of school feeding programs as a key policy for the future, significant challenges remain regarding official statistical data.
In particular, government data on Community-Based Childcare Centres (CBCCs) and nurseries for preschool-aged children is often limited, fails to reflect the reality on the ground, or is sometimes overestimated.
Having “gaps” in data means there is a real risk that the children who need support the most might be overlooked.
The Vital Role of Seibo’s School Feeding Support
This is where the boots-on-the-ground data that Seibo has steadily built up over the years becomes incredibly meaningful.
We maintain highly precise data, tracking not only the exact number of CBCCs we support but also the specific operational costs required to run them.
Furthermore, through our partnership with the government, school Committee Members (who belong to the Ministry of Education’s data collection framework) are stationed at each school. Seibo staff cross-verify actual attendance rates based on the volume of meals distributed, while frequently visiting the schools to monitor educational conditions and the nutritional status of children in remote, mountainous areas.
This deeply rooted local data serves as a highly valuable reference for the Malawian government as they plan future school feeding programs and childcare policies.
Delivering Support from Japan Directly and Transparently
Based on this data, the precious donations received from our supporters in Japan are delivered directly to the regions that need them most.
We visualize our daily field operations (the management of meal distributions) as transparent, clear data.
By ensuring total transparency regarding where, to whom, and how much support is being delivered, we provide peace of mind to our supporters and enable long-term, sustainable aid rather than temporary relief.

Why Not Shape Seibo’s Future and Data Strategy with Us as a “Member”?
Seibo’s journey is walked hand-in-hand with our supporters.
We are currently inviting new “Members” to join us in championing Seibo’s mission.
By becoming a member, you will be invited to attend our Annual General Meeting (AGM).
At the AGM, we do not just discuss Seibo’s future direction; we also invite our members to actively participate in shaping our data presentation strategy—discussing how to best utilize and share this valuable data with society.
Moving beyond the role of a traditional donor to actively steer the organization’s future and public narrative is one of the greatest benefits of becoming a Seibo member.
Until the day school meals reach every single child in Malawi, we will keep moving forward with transparent data and steady steps.
We invite you to view our latest map and dashboard through this link and take a new step forward together with us!
