Lecture at Rikkyo University
Date:2024.05.12

On May 7th, 2024, staff members of Seibo Japan conducted a lecture at Rikkyo (St. Paul’s) University regarding the topic of charity and social business, based on our school meal provision activity in Malawi, Africa. We were invited to a course named “Globalization and Business” where students explore the topics related to business through English learning which is part of the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) course.

Contents of the Lesson
Throughout the class, we covered the basics of what we do as an organization, mainly the business model behind our charity. Furthermore, we had discussions on what Malawi and Japan have in common, as well as other countries that require similar assistance. How we share core values with these partnering organizations is the key to connections, although what we do is different with each other.

Moral of the Lesson
The main moral behind this story was that every one of the people have different “seeds”, our unique identity or interest, where those “seeds” match with the “needs”, in our case, school meals in Malawi. Moreover, through the introduction of our case study with university and high school students, companies and other stakeholders, we believe that we were able to deliver a message that with our uniqueness, we could change the world to a better direction.

What is Charity and Philanthorophy
Finally we discussed the difference between charity and philanthorophy.
Philanthorophy sounds more strategic and planning activive for companies through such as SDGs.
However, as human, we should have charitable habit toward each other to make the society stable.

Through such classes, Seibo also hopes that participants will develop an interest in practical business using English within the framework of CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning). By connecting English with their own interests or the “seeds” mentioned above, we believe that participants can engage in more active and practical English learning, deepening their involvement in activities.

Through these classes, Seibo will continue to collaborate with university students in the future.
