Lectures and Workshop in Nursery School
Date:2024.04.13

The nonprofit organization Seibo not only provides educational institutions from elementary schools to universities but also conducts workshops and lectures for kindergarten children and their parents.

In shaping the future of children, we believe there are many common concerns with Japanese parents. Additionally, in Malawi, there are Mothers’ Groups where mothers play a crucial role in the community. I hope you can relate to the experiences of African parents and children.

Connection with Montessori Education
Montessori education is an educational method devised by Dr. Maria Montessori, who was both a physician and educator. In Japan, there is a gradual increase in schools introducing this curriculum at the kindergarten level, and there are more teachers capable of implementing it. Montessori education, which believes that children have the ability to discover and grow on their own, aims to expand children’s interests in multiple ways.

Instead of dividing classes by age, we implement unique education by connecting various age groups horizontally and letting them explore the world with activities such as playing with a globe to learn about the world.

Lessons for Seibo Kindergarten Students
Conducting workshops with the presence of parents and teachers, we focus on the following:

-Understanding the importance of meals and family.
-Broadening perspectives on the world
(expressing thoughts after looking at Africa, Malawi, other African countries, and their locations).
-Engaging in activities
(observing, expressing observations, and sharing with teachers and other grades).

Taking into account the sensory teaching methods emphasized in Montessori education, we use Google Earth and photos of meal scenes taken by our organization to foster a sense of valuing one’s own discoveries from a young age.

Our lecture for parents
We hold lectures for mothers where we discuss various aspects of Malawi, including the lives of local children and mothers, the importance of meals and education. In Africa, where the age distribution of the population is the opposite of Japan’s, early childhood education is emphasized. By introducing specific situations of children and mothers and the people involved, we hope to bring about new insights for mothers in interacting with their children.
