STEAM Education at Laurus International School
Date:2026.06.13

Seibo visited Laurus International School in Mita, Tokyo, to conduct the very first session of our 4-part “Warm Hearts Coffee Project” for 20 energetic elementary and junior high school students!

Session 1: Discovering Malawi & Connecting Our Worlds
We kicked off day one by exploring the question: “What kind of country is Malawi?”
Through vibrant photos and real-life stories, we introduced the students to daily life in Malawi—their schools, homes, food, and local communities. It was incredibly rewarding to see the students completely captivated by a world so different from Japan.
In the second half of the class, we all dove into a discussion about why we provide school meals and why this support is so vital.

“Just 15 Yen Can Change a Child’s Future”
Seeing the students’ expressions turn serious and deeply engaged when learning this fact was truly moving.
It gave them a real opportunity to reflect on how small actions in their own daily lives can create big smiles for children in Malawi, thousands of miles away. It was a wonderful first step toward seeing the world as interconnected and realizing that global issues matter to them personally.

The Goal: Leading Their Own Project at the STEAM Fair!
This special program goes far beyond just classroom learning.
Over the course of these four sessions, the students will actively prepare for the upcoming STEAM Fair (a school-wide event).
On the day of the fair, the students will take center stage. They will brainstorm how to market and sell the coffee, stepping up as leaders to plan and run a special “Warm Hearts Coffee” booth. By selling Malawian coffee to their school community, they will personally drive the fundraising efforts.

The knowledge that their hard work will directly fund school meals in Malawi has given the students an incredible boost of motivation for this hands-on experience in social contribution.

A huge thank you to everyone at Laurus International School for participating so enthusiastically in our first session! We are absolutely thrilled to see how the students will shape their ideas and grow over the coming weeks.
