Kokagakuen High School Connects Directly with Malawi through Seibo
Date:2026.11.07

On October 26, 2026, Seibo facilitated an online cultural exchange lesson in English, connecting high school students from Kokagakuen High School with educators and partners in Malawi.

The interactive session featured the following key programs:
①Introduction to Seibo’s Mission: An overview of NPO Seibo’s activities and domestic initiatives in Japan.
②Introductions & Country Spotlight: Self-introductions by our Malawian partners, alongside an introduction to life and culture in Malawi.
③Q&A Session: A lively question-and-answer segment based on questions prepared in advance by the students.
④Student Presentations: Presentations by the Kokagakuen students showcasing their own initiatives.

Through these English-language exchanges, the students deepened their bond with Malawi and experienced meaningful, direct interaction with its people. High school participants asked insightful questions regarding local professions, work fulfillment, and daily living conditions. It also provided a valuable opportunity to directly ask our Malawian guests about their perspectives on Seibo’s school feeding program.

Kokagakuen High School has long supported Seibo by designing original coffee drip bags and selling them to fund school meals. This session allowed students to go beyond simply experiencing Africa and Malawi through agricultural products, offering them a wonderful opportunity to learn through direct human connection.

We would like to share a reflection we received from one of the participating high school students:

“Thank you very much for taking the time to speak with us today. This program was a truly precious opportunity to learn in detail about Malawian culture and deepen our understanding of your country. We are also deeply grateful for the thoughtful, detailed answers you provided to our many questions. In particular, the Chichewa language lesson was both a fun and fascinating experience. We plan to make the most of what we learned today in our ongoing activities, and we hope to share Malawi’s wonderful culture with even more people across Japan. We look forward to the day we can speak with you again!”

Finally, let us introduce an initiative that allows you to chat online with the people of Malawi.

Through BeehiveTalk, you can engage in online cultural exchange and English conversation with young people at a vocational training center in Blantyre, southern Malawi, with whom SEIBO collaborates.

It is a platform featuring a large number of trained Maluvians teachers. We offer group lessons—such as those taken by students at Kokwa Gakuen—as well as individual lessons.
