Raising Awareness of Malawi’s Reality at School Through the “Seibo Japan KIA” Fundraising Campaign
Date:2026.09.10

Students from Kansai International Academy recently conducted an international support project using Malawian coffee and chocolate.
From initial planning and execution to donor follow-up, the students managed every aspect of the project themselves, making it a highly fruitful initiative.
Please take a look at the report and future outlook provided by the students below!

In partnership with Seibo Japan, we led an awareness and fundraising campaign at school in support of a school meal program in Malawi, an initiative we came to call “Seibo Japan KIA”.
We came across Seibo Japan while searching for an organization that actively engages with social issues, and were drawn to their focus on poverty and inadequate infrastructure in Malawi.

Their mission aligned closely with our interest in social issues, which led us to reach out and propose a collaboration to take action within the school community.
Our team of five carried the initiative forward effectively.
The leader convened and directed weekly meetings, structuring our roles so that each member could contribute according to their individual strengths. We developed slides that illustrated Malawi’s realities, produced content for social media, and coordinated the planning and logistics of our on-campus awareness event.

Teammates brought real dedication to every part of this project, and their contributions were significant to the success of the fundraising project in May.
Through the awareness campaign conducted in May, we shared the realities faced by children and the local community in Malawi, as well as the purpose of our project, with students and parents from kindergarten through middle school.

The responses and participation in this project were more successful than we had anticipated, and with the generosity of our school community, we raised approximately 130,000 yen in donations.
The encouragement we received from students and parents meant a lot to our team.

Through this experience, we came to realize that social issues, even those occurring on the other side of the world, aren’t as disconnected from us as they might seem.
This experience made us realize that small actions can add up to something meaningful, serving as an opportunity for students, teachers, parents, and even us to learn more about the problems of poverty, hunger, and lack of education in Malawi.

Looking ahead, we hope to extend our efforts beyond our school community, envisioning opportunities to raise awareness more broadly, such as by collaborating with other schools.
Furthermore, we hope to keep raising awareness and making a difference on social issues.
