From June 4, 2025, 22 students at Jissen Women’s University took part in the extracurricular program Global J Mission. As part of this initiative, they collaborated with Seibo, an NPO providing school meals to children in Malawi, one of Africa’s poorest countries. While the students did not reach their fundraising goals, the four teams each developed original ideas—making the experience a valuable opportunity for personal and team growth.
The Global J Mission is a sub-program of J Mission, a career development initiative aimed at first- and second-year students. Participants are assigned real-world challenges by partner companies or organizations and are expected to propose solutions through a final presentation. This edition focused on a collaboration with Seibo, offering students a chance to engage in a real-world international social contribution project.
Through this program, the students learned about Seibo’s mission, the socio-economic challenges faced in Malawi, and the mechanisms behind fundraising, SDGs, and the differences between NGOs and NPOs. They also participated in a practical lecture on digital marketing, where they gained insight into tools and strategies used in the business world.
In the final session, each student team presented its original project. One team, Team No.1, proposed using Instagram stories to promote Malawi coffee and support Seibo’s mission. Other teams introduced equally creative ideas, from coffee-themed social events to student cafeteria campaigns.
The Global J Mission offered many “firsts” for the students: their first cross-departmental teamwork experience, their first involvement with an NPO, and their first practical application of business concepts like branding, user experience, and social impact. The program fostered practical teamwork, social awareness, and a sense of agency.
Student Reflections
Through this program, students were not only able to learn theoretical concepts but also develop real-world business and social contribution skills that will serve them in their future careers.
