In February 2026, a grant agreement was signed for the construction of three school feeding kitchens at three schools in Mzimba District.
The agreement was signed by H.E. Ambassador Naito of Japan to Malawi and Mr. Victor Mthulo, Program Manager of Seibo Maria.
Through this support, the environment for our school feeding program will become more hygienic and stable, further promoting conditions in which children in northern primary schools can concentrate on their studies.
Collaboration between Seibo Maria and NPO Seibo (Japan)
Seibo Maria is the local partner organization of NPO Seibo, a Japanese nonprofit organization that supports school feeding programs in Malawi.
The organization is committed to providing nutritious school meals to ensure that children can continue learning in a safe and supportive environment.
Victor Mthulo and NPO Seibo in Japan maintain regular communication, sharing updates and conveying the current situation in Malawi to supporters in Japan.
Through this grant, we are truly pleased that the relationship between Japan and Malawi will be further strengthened through Seibo’s school feeding activities.
Significance of the Grant
This grant holds particular importance in the following areas:
① Establishment of a Hygienic Cooking Environment
The construction of dedicated kitchens will make it possible to prepare meals under safe and hygienic conditions with proper sanitation management.
This will enable the stable provision of nutritious and healthy meals to children.
② Support for Continued Education
During the ceremony, Ambassador Naito pointed out that many families in Malawi face difficulties in providing adequate nutrition and educational support for their children.
In reality, some children attend school while hungry, which leads to reduced concentration and, in some cases, school dropout.
School feeding is not merely the provision of meals; it is a vital social foundation that supports children’s continued learning and future opportunities.
Future Activities
Construction of kitchens has begun at three primary schools—Chabere, Kanyerere, and Machelecheta Primary Schools.
We will continue to report on how these kitchens impact school feeding programs and bring positive change to the local communities.
We hope this initiative will further strengthen the partnership among Malawi, the Government of Japan, and nonprofit organizations.
We also look forward to sharing with our supporters in Japan the continued growth and development of our activities in Malawi.
