Lecture at International Pacific University - About SDGs
Date:2024.12.04

At the invitation of International Pacific University (IPU), I delivered a guest speech for their foundational course, Introduction to SDGs. In my talk, I shared insights about Seibo’s activities through the lens of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Goals 1 and 4 of the SDGs

Goals 1 and 4 of the SDGs focus on poverty eradication and quality education, respectively, closely aligning with themes of food and education. While these goals attract significant attention, achieving them requires a long-term perspective, as immediate results are often not feasible.

Through school meal support in Malawi, Seibo directly contributes to these goals. We dedicate our daily efforts to ensuring every child has breakfast, empowering them with energy and focus to thrive in their education.

In Japan, we collaborate with educational institutions, from kindergartens to universities, by organizing initiatives such as education programs using Malawian coffee and engaging with corporate supporters. These activities not only foster the development of Japanese children’s education but also nurture a culture of charity. Each of these efforts reflects the importance of consistent, long-term dedication to achieving the SDGs.

Student Reactions

After the lecture, a student from a modern management seminar, who had been running a business initiative involving coffee and social contributions, approached me. This led to a collaboration involving Malawian tea. Together, we plan to conduct workshops for local children visiting the university. These workshops will teach how to brew Malawian tea while sharing insights about local farms and the importance of school meal support.

The SDGs are global goals set by the United Nations, often appearing daunting in scale. However, by aligning our efforts toward these shared objectives, we can find opportunities for collaboration, starting with the resources and communities around us.
