Seibo NPO Presentation at Gyosei High School
Date:2025.10.13

In October 2025, Seibo Japan, a non-profit organization supporting education and nutrition in Malawi, Africa, held a special presentation at Gyosei High School in Tokyo. The session introduced students to the realities of life in Malawi and Africa, the importance of school meal support, and how people in Japan can contribute through social business.

Seibo operates a school feeding program in Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world. Many children there attend school on an empty stomach, making it difficult for them to concentrate or even attend classes regularly. Providing school meals not only improves children’s health but also encourages school attendance, becoming a vital step toward breaking the cycle of poverty through education.

During the presentation, students learned about Malawi’s geography, culture, and the broader social challenges facing African countries, such as poverty, education, and the effects of climate change on agriculture. Through photos and videos from local schools, students were able to see the smiles of Malawian children and the impact of school meals firsthand, making the distant reality of Africa feel closer and more personal.

The discussion then turned to Japan’s role in supporting these efforts. Instead of viewing aid as one-time donations, Seibo introduced the idea of “social business”—a sustainable way to support communities through everyday choices. The organization’s Warm Hearts Coffee Club imports and sells Malawian coffee in Japan, and the proceeds directly fund school meal programs. Students showed great interest in this model, realizing that even their own actions and consumption can create positive change.

At the end of the session, students actively asked questions such as, “How does Seibo work with local communities in Malawi?” and “What can we do as a school to help spread this initiative?” The discussion reflected their growing curiosity and sense of global responsibility.

Through this event, Gyosei High School students were encouraged to see global issues not as distant problems, but as shared challenges that require cooperation and creativity. Seibo will continue to collaborate with schools to provide opportunities for young people to learn, reflect, and act toward building a more just and connected world.
