We participated in EdYOUFest Japan, an educational conference bringing together English language educators and innovators from around the world, where we gave a presentation and sold Malawian coffee. Engaging in deep discussions with university English professors and education professionals about social contribution through coffee and the future of education in Malawi within an international setting made this an exceptionally valuable experience.
1. Presentation on Malawian Coffee and Its “Social Value”
In this presentation, rather than simply introducing “delicious coffee,” we focused on the social value that Malawian coffee carries. We shared the passion of the producers behind every cup, support for local communities, and the framework for a sustainable cycle, which drew significant interest in these impactful systems.
2. Malawian Coffee Booth & Sales
At the venue, we set up a booth to sell the Malawian coffee featured in our presentation. Many attendees visited us after the talk. As they enjoyed its rich aroma and distinct chocolatey sweet finish, we discussed how this same coffee is used as a educational tool for learning social business in schools, inspiring great interest from many visitors.
3. The Deep Connection Between “Education and School Meals” in Malawi
For children in Malawi, school meals are far more than just nutritional support—they serve as a powerful incentive to attend school and pursue an education. By sharing how crucial school meal support is for boosting enrollment rates and encouraging continuous learning, we gained deep empathy regarding how educational opportunities should be created.
4. Potential for “Malawian English Teachers” to Succeed Globally in the Future
English is widely spoken as an official language in Malawi. During our conversations, we explored the idea that Malawians, with their strong English proficiency, could thrive globally as international English teachers in the future.
We hope that as more people gradually get to know Malawi through a single cup of coffee, its presence in the educational sector will continue to grow.
