Supports after the Cycole March 2023
Date:2023.03.30

From March 10th to 14th, 2023, Malawi was struck by Cyclone “Freddy,” causing floods, landslides, and mudslides due to heavy rains.
Hundreds of people died, and thousands were forced to evacuate. Chilingani, one of Seibo’s partner schools, also became a refugee camp.

All schools in severely affected areas such as southern Blantyre were temporarily closed from March 27th under government instructions. The CBCC in the Chilingani area was accommodating many evacuees while storing Seibo’s Likuni Phala. In order to fulfill the mission of providing meals to all hungry children, Seibo cooked porridge at all schools and arranged for children to come to school for meals even when schools were closed.

However, in the school at Chilingani, which also served as a refugee camp, insufficient information sharing with Seibo led to a situation where not all evacuees received rations. Therefore, Seibo decided to donate all Likuni Phala at Chilingani to be used for the refugees’ food.

Thus, there are still areas where there is insufficient food supply on the ground.
We will continue to provide updates as information becomes available.
