In August 2025, EQAO, a preparatory school specializing in comprehensive entrance exams, collaborated with the NPO Seibo to conduct a special class.
This class was designed to nurture students’ proactive engagement with social issues—a key component of recommendation-based university admissions—and to encourage them to translate awareness into concrete action.
Thinking About International Support in English
Participating high school students engaged in English discussions on global challenges, including those faced by Malawi, and explored ways they could contribute to international support.
By exchanging ideas in English, they not only gained exposure to diverse perspectives but also developed the ability to express their thoughts on social issues in their own words.
As they learned about challenges such as education, food insecurity, and child malnutrition in Malawi, students gained a more realistic understanding of international support. Learning about social business models further deepened their awareness of how real-world solutions can be implemented.
Exploring Support Through Coffee
In the latter half of the session, students explored the activities of the “Warm Hearts Coffee Club,” a project run by Seibo that uses the sale of Malawi specialty coffee to fund school feeding programs.
Rather than viewing the initiative as simple charity, students examined its potential as a fair trade and sustainable business model.
They worked in groups to design their own sales strategies and learned to explain how coffee sales could lead to long-term international support—using their own words and ideas.
