Chocolate from Malawi for School Meals
Date:2025.10.06

In Luwazi, Nkhata Bay District in northern Malawi, Kwanza Cocoa was born as the country’s very first and only Bean-to-Bar chocolate maker. From cacao cultivation to processing and production, everything is completed locally in Malawi. The chocolates, crafted with care and respect for the environment, are highly acclaimed in Africa, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

Now, for the first time, Seibo Japan is importing Kwanza Cocoa to Japan and offering it as a charity product!

Product Lineup
-Kwanza Cocoa offers a wide variety of flavors, including:
-90% Dark Chocolate
-70% Dark Chocolate
-KUMBUZI & SEA SALT (Chili & Sea Salt)
-Dark Chocolate with HEMP SEEDS
-Mocha Chocolate
-Milk Chocolate

In addition to chocolate bars, they also produce bonbons, spreads, and other cacao-based treats.
For this initiative, Seibo is offering Milk Chocolate and 70% Dark Chocolate as charity products in Japan.

Farming Practices and Working Conditions
The uniqueness of Kwanza Cocoa lies not only in the rich taste of its chocolate but also in its commitment to improving the lives of those who produce it.

Supporting Women Farmers
Of the 13 employees, around 60% are women. Beyond the factory, Kwanza Cocoa provides free seedlings and training to local women farmers, enabling them to secure an independent source of income. Many women balance farming with childcare and household responsibilities while earning a stable livelihood.

Sustainable Agriculture
Each year, more than 3,000 cacao trees are planted to enrich the farming environment and strengthen resilience against climate change. The farms are more than workplaces—they serve as hubs for learning and practicing sustainable agriculture.

Fair Labor Conditions
The farms operate free from child labor, and adults are paid fair wages. Through the Out-growers Program, farmers work under direct contracts with the company, ensuring stable cacao sales and eliminating exploitative middlemen. This guarantees that farmers receive a fair share of the value they create.

Chocolate that Respects People and the Planet
While most cacao is exported overseas for processing, causing high CO₂ emissions from long-distance shipping, Kwanza Cocoa completes the entire process within Malawi, reducing environmental impact.

Visitors can also join “Tastings & Tours”, where they learn about the journey from cacao bean to chocolate bar—splitting cacao pods, fermenting beans, sun-drying, and roasting—experiencing firsthand the care and dedication behind each bar.

Perfect Pairings
Malawian chocolate pairs beautifully with coffee:

-Black Coffee × Milk Chocolate

-Dark Roast Coffee × High-Cacao Dark Chocolate

Each pairing offers a unique harmony of flavors.
Enjoy Chocolate, Create Futures
Every bite of this chocolate is more than just delicious—it’s a step toward a brighter future. By purchasing Seibo’s charity chocolate, you are not only savoring a premium product but also helping to provide daily school meals for children in Malawi.
