Seibo is supported by the Catholic Education Society and is currently introducing the implementation of an educational curriculum that integrates social business, Catholic ethics, and social action.
Many schools have become partners with Seibo, focusing on activities such as exploratory and extracurricular programs. Among these, numerous students are actively working as Seibo ambassadors, promoting Malawi coffee across Japan in collaboration with local industries and communities. They also raise awareness about poverty issues in Africa and what can be done from Japan to address them.
Some of these students are considering social entrepreneurship as a future path, and a few are already collaborating with us to develop actual business initiatives.
The history of Catholic churches and schools in Japan can be traced back to missionaries who came primarily in the latter half of the 20th century, incorporating education for women, social welfare, and English education as part of their mission. Over time, their efforts transitioned from merely importing Western ideas to contributing uniquely to the values and ethics required in Japan’s educational context.
Our mission is to explore how the added educational value needed for Japan’s future can be embedded in social business and shared through our activities in Malawi, ultimately contributing to shaping the world’s future.
We will continue these initiatives alongside mission schools.
