At the Fontaine Square on the 4th floor of Atre Ebisu, second-year students from Hiroo Junior High School in Shibuya Ward hosted a Malawi coffee tasting event and a sales booth featuring drip coffee packs and other items.
Thanks to their efforts, the equivalent of approximately 3,030 school meals for children in Malawi was made possible—created by junior high school students, right here in Shibuya, Tokyo.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved.
We have been working with Hiroo Junior High School since 2024. During this time, students have engaged in a wide range of learning activities, including selling products at children’s cafeterias, studying Malawi’s natural environment such as its lakes, exploring environmental issues, learning about coffee cultivation, and researching the significance of school meal support programs.
In addition to selling Malawi coffee, the students also offered handmade goods, including crafts that they prepared themselves.
We are truly delighted that this initiative became a meaningful example of community collaboration and a “glocal” activity—connecting the local community with global challenges and opportunities.
