Activity Report in North for Ocotober 2023
Date:2023.11.01

In October, support was provided for the new school term in the northern Mzimba district. Here are the details:

Procurement and Distribution of Cups for “Standard 1” (First Grade)
As part of the annual support, 2,502 plastic mugs were procured and distributed to students in “Standard 1” (first grade). These cups are provided exclusively to first graders to ensure they can enjoy meals every day during the first term of primary school. Subsequently, if cups are lost or damaged, or as students progress to higher grades, replacements are needed. While it’s rare for students to reach eighth grade with the same cup they received in first grade, Seibo’s public relations officer, Future, will record and report any such cases in schools in the coming months.

Improvement in Hygiene Management
Due to perceived deficiencies in hygiene, 30 handwashing buckets with taps were procured and delivered to all schools in Mzimba. These buckets are filled with water and placed on dedicated platforms or wooden chairs near handwashing stations. When the tap is opened, gravity allows water to flow, thereby improving hygiene standards at schools.

Procurement and Distribution of Soap Tablets for Schools
In addition to the handwashing buckets, soap tablets were procured and delivered to all schools in Mzimba and Blantyre. A total of 65 cartons were purchased, each containing 30 tablets. In Mzimba, each school received two cartons of soap, while in Blantyre, each school received one carton. To maintain hygiene, soap tablets will continue to be provided to all schools on a quarterly basis for regular activities. The soap is used for washing utensils such as pots, serving porridge from pots into buckets, washing cups for students, and ensuring all students wash their hands before receiving porridge.

Through such support in addition to food assistance, Seibo’s school feeding partners can provide daily meals to children in a stable manner. We will continue to make the most of everyone’s support in the future!
